Matthew & Tiff, thanks for the opportunity to appear on Digital Web Magazine and share my process and thinking regarding sketchnotes. I hope it encourages others to have a little fun with their own notes too — makes for an all around good time if you’re gonna take notes anyway! :-)

This reminds me of my history teacher (a lovely chap called Theo Schulte who taught Totalitarianism in Italy and Germany in the 20th Century). He started the lecture with a timeline bifurcating the whiteboard, and then populated the spaces with dates, quotes and notes. Not as visually as sumptuous as these sketchnotes though!

This type of note-taking is taught and even required in some of Purdue University’s Computer Graphics 100-level courses.
