Yesterday, it was brought to our attention that Microsoft is not to be broken up after all, at least for the time being. On the heels of this news comes a Linux Journal article which asks, "Why is Microsoft Attacking the GPL?" The answer to this question is important to Web developers everywhere, as the Web development trades need to be alert to the efforts of Microsoft (or any other company) to "embrace and extend" (or "assimilate" if you prefer) the open standardssuch as XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which are explicitly referred to in the articleupon which our working lives are wholly based... whether we like to admit it or not. Where do you stand?
