Out of the same voyeuristic tendency that made internet hits of postsecret, overheard in new york, chat status messages, the twitter public timeline and—let’s face it—tons of other digital people watching comes Overheard.it, a new project by Digital Web columnist Jonathan Snook and his partners at Sidebar Creative. Overheard.it scours public Twitter posts for common conventions for amusing and strange things overheard by bored Twitterers, and collects them into one site for your viewing pleasure. Much like Dan Cederholm’s Foamee, Overheard.it is another interesting extension application on top of other services (Twitter, in both cases) made available through APIs and libraries.

And while we’re on the topic of cool scripting, Digital Web contributor Dustin Diaz’ new book, Pro JavaScript Design Patterns, is on shelves both virtual and physical right now! According to Dustin’s enthusiastic Twitter posts, it is doing pretty well. Pick up a copy, and look for more about Dustin’s book on Digital Web soon.
